Fortune Telling

how did the ancient romans do fortune telling?
did they have signs they would particularly use?
e.g. if bird was flying low- you would have a good job?
boy with 6 fingers on one hand- bad luck?
The temples frequently used haruspicy, which involved sacrificing an animal, cutting it open, and examining its liver. A diseased looking liver of course was a bad omen; a healthy liver a good one. The priests purported could also read the fine details. A related skill would the reading of all the animal's entrails, not just the liver.
There was also argury, or looking at birds to determine the omens. The appearance of a specific type of bird, which side of the observer it was on, the direction it flew, if it was carrying something or was attacked by another bird, all were things the auger looked at to interpret the will of the gods. This was a doubly useful method, given that one could always "help" the gods, by secretly arranging to have the appropriate type of bird released near where the reading was taking place.
The Romans were a superstitious bunch, and prone to other forms of fortune telling. You of course had the Oracles, such as at Delphi, which continued to enjoy great popularity during the pagan era of the Republc and empire. Astrology was another common method, and of course you still had your "everyday" psychics who could commune with the supernatural.
Finding details on what was a good vs a bad omen is a bit harder, with details smatterered through some of the classical writings that have made it to down to us today.

INTERACTIVE Fortune Teller
Does anyone believe that fortune telling is real?
I'm a very strong christian, I believe in god and his son jesus christ, but I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever had there fortune told?
Yeah I do. But the destiny/outlook is not always positive. I was in a class called Ethics & The Good Life and we all had to talk about experiences that happened to us that changed our lives and one of my classmates at the time talked about how she and three of her girlfriends went to a fortune teller...
The fortune teller/palm reader was telling all of them special things that were supposed to happened in their lives but one of the girls she would not tell her fortune to her, she put it in a sealed envelope and told her to read it once she got home. Needless to say, she never made it home...she died in a freakish car accident. The accident was so bad that the steering wheel got lodged in her chest.
Weeks later after her funeral her mother called over her friends and told them that they could pick out clothes, shoes, purses, etc. from their girlfriend. Well the freaky thing was they had come across the purse that she was carrying the day of the accident and the 3 ladies were fighting over it. I think it was a designer purse and each of them wanted it. One of the girls opened the purse and saw the sealed envelope that the fortune teller/palm reader gave their friend and the note simply said: "This is your last day to live". She said that it freaked her and her friends out, they all started crying and shaking, the girls mom came in, they told her mom and she was upset, it was just too much for them that they decided to come back another time and give her things to the good-will instead of taking them.
I will always remember this story because it was so profound! I believed her because she was so emotional and she was crying when she told the story and after she was finished the class was quiet for about a good 2-3 minutes and yes the teacher let us take a break after that one and we were hugging her and telling her that we were sorry to hear the bad news about her friend.
After that story I told myself that I am staying AWAY from Fortune tellers and since I deal with paranormal activity anyway...that is enough for me! I did attempt to get my Fortune read years later in New Orleans but everytime I came, the lady was taking a break or she stepped out. I went twice and she wasn't there so I was like "Oh well, it is not meant for me to have my fortune told" and I never thought about it again.
Sorry for the long message.
