On my old machine (it had 1.3gb DDR RAM and Windows XP), whenever I used Firefox, it would use about 200,000 K of memory (as indicated by Task Manager). But now I updated to a new computer - it has Windows 7 Home Premium, 3gb DDR2 and an ATI Radeon HD 4860 with 1gb of dedicated GDDR5 video memory. Whenever I use Firefox, it starts out as using around 150,000 K - which isn't too bad, but still pretty high - but before long it inflates to nearly 800,000 K, and it slows down my whole machine. I usually just switch to Google Chrome when this happens, but I don't want to leave Firefox. How can I make it use less memory?

Leaving the disk in the machine cannot permanently damage it (unless you try to force another fresh disk on top of the old one), BUT... if you leave disks in, the coffee grounds can eventually clog up the water feed tube that punches into the disk.
We had that problem with another brand of disk-type coffee maker. If it happens, you need to take a safety pin or toothpick to clean out the feeder tube.
